5 Signs You May Have Fibroids

5 Signs You May Have Fibroids

Intense pelvic pain, abdominal discomfort, and heavy periods –these are all signs of uterine fibroids. Although benign, these growth are termed tumors and can become a reason for extreme pain during your menstrual phase. Fibroids are of different types. They can exist outside your uterus, bulge from the inner uterine lining, or surrounding region. You can have one or more types of these fibroids in the form of clusters. These are formed from the connective tissues of your uterus.

While some women experience symptoms, others are completely asymptomatic. Starting your period at an early age and having a late onset of menopause can also be a sign of fibroids. It is very important to detect these early signs and consult your doctor to get rid of these growths. To make it easier for you, here are five warning signs that will tell you if you have uterine fibroids

  1. Excessive Bleeding

Fibroids are often caused by a hormonal imbalance. What's worse is that these growths on or around your uterus can increase with each period. A woman who has fibroids is more likely to experience heavy and excessive bleeding during her periods. It is also accompanied by excruciating period cramps and pain in the uterus. Along with this, passing large clots and spotting in between your cycles is also a sign that you need to get yourself checked for fibroids. If you experience heavy flows, try our long night pads. Need extra protection? The period undies are also great for heavy bleeders as backup protection for days where you need it most.

  1. Painful Sex

Fibroids are basically growths on or inside your uterus. These growths can make it painful for you to engage in sexual activities. Always remember that pain during sex is never a good sign. While someone might not experience this particular sign, it is a common fibroid symptom. So if you are feeling discomfort while having sex, get yourself evaluated for fibroids.

  1. Increased Urination

When your uterine fibroid growth is large enough to put pressure on your bladder, you find it difficult to hold your urine in for longer durations. Women who have fibroids will find themselves urinating more often than usual. It is also possible that urinating is accompanied by uterine pain and discomfort.

  1. Feeling Full

Fibroid growth takes up a lot of space in your abdomen and pelvic area making you feel full and bloated. If you are always feeling bloated and an uncomfortably full feeling is settling in your pelvis, it could be a sign that you have fibroids.

  1. Pain in Lower Back

While back pain and pelvic cramps are common during your periods, pain related to fibroids is constant and worse. If you are experiencing cramps and pain –especially in your lower back, then it could be an early warning sign of uterine fibroids.

If you are feeling these symptoms, the very first thing you should do is consult your healthcare provider and get yourself checked for fibroids. Ignoring abnormal period pain and sex-related discomfort is never a good sign. There could be some serious problem behind these stinging pain and consistent discomfort. Watch out for these symptoms and discuss them with your doctor.
