Your period care is more FAKE than your ex bestie

Your period care is more FAKE than your ex bestie

First of all, WHAT ARE SYNTHETIC MATERIALS — AND WHY DO THEY MATTER FOR YOUR PERIOD?

Most of us don’t think twice about what our period products are made of. Many women we polled online had never checked the ingredients in their pads and tampons before they saw viral videos about how unsafe they were on Tiktok or instagram. We’re told they’re “safe,” “tested,” and “trusted.” But very few brands talk about what’s actually in them.

So let’s break it down.

Synthetic materials are man-made fibers created through chemical processes—often using petroleum (yes, the same base as plastic).
They’re engineered to be durable, flexible, and cheap to produce. That’s why they show up everywhere—from clothing to packaging… and surprisingly, in many period products. Plant based materials also go through processing, but not all processes are created equal.

Lets break it down

A lot of conventional pads, tampons, and even period underwear rely heavily on synthetic materials like:

  • Polyester
  • Nylon
  • Polypropylene
  • Plastic-based fibers

These materials are used to create that “dry,” “leak-proof,” or “ultra-thin” feeling and are often times finished with PFAs and even heavy metals to give them a dry feel.

But there’s a tradeoff when you use fake to mimic reaL!

Because while synthetics are durable, they’re also:

  • Not breathable
  • Not biodegradable
  • Derived from fossil fuels
  • And often sit directly against one of the most absorbent parts of your body

Why we chose to use hemp fiber and organic cotton

We believe period care should feel as natural as your body. Hemp fiber and organic cotton have that natural and breathable feel.

That’s why our pads and tampons are made with plant-based materials—not petroleum-based plastics. They’re designed to support your body, not sit on top of it.

And when it comes to our period underwear, we’ve been intentional there too:

  • We use only 5% stretch fibers in our undies—just enough for comfort and fit. Once we can find a bio stretch that can work at scale, we will use it!
  • The rest is hemp fiber and organic cotton- thats how our products are so comfy breathability and natural feel

Performance shouldn’t come at the expense of what touches your body every single month.

The reason synthetic is all over.

Synthetic materials changed the world. They made things cheaper, faster, and more convenient.

But when it comes to something as intimate as period care, convenience shouldn’t be the only priority.

What you wear and use on your period I can effect your health and your comfort—Lets not discount what you’re exposing your body to, month after month.
